I'm NOT addicted

I'm not worried at all about the next days, just because I won't have internet access again until Sunday, just because some random cousin who I haven't seen or talked to in years is getting married with a traffic policeman.

I did survive last december, when I didn't have internet for almost a month! So 4 days won't be the end of the world.

Happy ME-day

Not sure where it comes from, but there's a University Worker Day, and I'm not even sure when it was, but today we had free lunch (again), and adding the 2 chocolate cakes from the weekend (a housemate's b-day), there goes the wight and fat I lost, that I was so proud of last week when my gim trainer weighted me.

Dead weight

I can't really describe how wonderful it is to be free of a dead weight that I've suffered for the last 4 years.

Finally a useless, lazy person that never comes to work within their schedule, and when she did come, came to sleep or make-up lame stories of people she says are her friends, or wonderful places where she was always asked to go (like if anyone would be interested in spending time with that cow!).

Free of her stories of how her kid is a genius, and teachers are always calling her to congratulate her. HA! Like if we didn't know that spoiled brat who one day put cheap Dragon Ball stickers in our computer offices, and needs some jarabe de palo! Yeah, the genius genes come from it's father who got himself killed because he forgot to put a lifesaver.

No more of that bitch who can't even pay her phone bills, so her family was always calling her in the office.

I only hope that when she gets fired (if she hasn't already been yet) from her new job, she doesn't try to come back here.

Semana U 2008

So, even if reading the event calendar it seems that Semana U is like every other year's, don't be fooled, if its like last year.

When I was a students, concerts were better, and people actually went, and paid entrance to assist.

The carnival was on saturdays, at the beginning of Semana U, but now, its at the end of it, and INSIDE the campus. Jeez! Such a perfect opportunity to march to our dearest If its like last year, tyrant's house to complain about CAFTA wasted.

And to think that when I was a student the older people argued that our Semana Us were nothing compared to theirs, when it was legal to sell alcohol within the campus.

Now get off my lawn kid!

So this is my country?

Check out this song.

So, THAT is the way people see us? Let me just list what might not be true:

I love my neighborhood bar, where they welcomed me effusively and let me run a tab the first time they ever laid eyes on me. Each time I go to that happy place, you would think I am their most regular customer. I've been there three times in the past year.

I love receiving a discount from just about every store and business in the country simply because I smile and say "buenos dias" to everyone when I enter. I enjoy watching other gringos in the same stores seriously "get right down to business," having not learned this little touch of Costa Rican social grace - and then watching them pay more everywhere every time. You think cultural difference do not matter? You feel that simple, basic courtesy doesn't pay?

I love when I ask someone for directions and he or she completely stops what they are doing in order to escort me personally halfway across town, deliver me to the door, and proudly introduce me to the proprietor.

In a very small town, it might be true.

I love that the buses will stop to pick up and drop off people anywhere along the road between towns.

Actually, car drivers, and the other bus passengers hate that.

I love watching a teenage boy holding hands with his mother while walking through the public park in the center of town in full view of all his friends.

Only if she's old, sick, or a controlling bitch (his friends are actually smart enough not to mention anything outloud).

I love the politeness most teenagers display to people my age. Yesterday I watched a teenage boy leave his friends waiting while he went back across the street and assisted an elderly gentleman in making his way. No snide, smart-alecky remarks greeted the good Samaritan when he returned to his group of friends.

The kid probably knew the eldery person before hand.

I love when a storekeeper informs me that I am the greatest living customer that he has ever had the honor and privilege to humbly serve and that my presence in his establishment has surpassed any possible visit in the future by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England herself. (A slight exaggerating, I suppose but, hey, it worked - I'll be back!)

Ok, that is never happening.

The Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008

They do this annually, right?

So, we're at 60/127.

High-tech exports (12/127)
High-technology exports as a percentage of total exports> Source: The World Bank [i]World Development Indicators Online Database[i] (December 2007); national sources

Quality of competition in the ISP sector (124/127)
Is there sufficient competition among internet service providers in your country to ensure high quality infrequent interruptions and low prices? (1 = no 7 = yes equal to the best in the world)>

Curiously, in spite of lack of competition, there are infrequent interruptions, and low prices. Too bad they didn't ask how long it takes to get a simple connection, thanks to the ICE's lack of modems.

Yet another god

How many gods do I have already?

Flying Spaguetti Monster?
Warcraft?

And now, more than ever a new one: Gaius Balthar. The more Battlestar Galactica advances, the better he is.

By your command!

Barely

For some unknown god who hates me, in my room in San Pedro, I can't access the University's wireless internet, but just outside it in the lawn, I can get access to it up to 36Mbps!

Sigh...

Not my fault

If you haven't noticed I'm clueless about woman (if you haven't, you're more clueless than me), so for your information, it has been scientifically proved that it's not just me.

So there you have it.

Got software?

In case you have or plan to develop a software company in this side of the world, you might be interested in Solar ICT. At least here in CR I know the guys from CAMTIC, so I know they're hardworkers, and eager to help people.
